I have a confession to make, and it's a slightly embarrassing one for a grown adult with a job and a mortgage: I rebuild my Town Hall 15 base more often than I rearrange my living room. Every single season. Sometimes twice, if I get three-starred in a war and my pride takes more damage than my storages did.

So yes, I've spent a ridiculous amount of time staring at base layouts, and I've learned a few things the hard way. TH15 is not a friendly town hall. It's the awkward middle child — packed with more defenses than your average fortress, yet still getting bulldozed by players who know exactly which wall to open and which Royal Champion entry to send. If you want your base to actually survive, you can't just grab the first layout that pops up somewhere. You need something fresh, tested, and preferably not already known by every attacker in your war bracket.
The Base That Everyone Already Knows Is Not a Base
Here's the thing nobody tells you when you start hunting for layouts: a base ages like milk, not like wine. The moment a layout goes public, it starts dying. Attackers learn it. They practice it. They build muscle memory around your traps.
That's why the monthly drop system makes sense to me. The newest layouts are the ones built for the current meta — Fireball plus Golem Meteor, Royal Champion Root Riders, RC Dragons, Thrower spam, Giant Arrow plus Backpack nonsense. The old ones are basically museum pieces with a "please attack here" sign attached.

Let me show you the burn curve, because it's genuinely funny in a painful way:
| Release | Layout Style | War | CWL | Trophy | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 2026 | Diamond | 98 | 97 | 81 | 🔥 Fresh (PRO) |
| Sep 2026 | Diamond | 82 | 87 | 77 | ⚠️ Public, 27 days |
| Aug 2026 | Balanced box | 76 | 80 | 72 | 🥴 Burnt, 57 days |
| Jul 2026 | Box | 61 | 64 | 53 | 🥴 Burnt, 88 days |
| Jun 2026 | Symmetrical | 55 | 50 | 45 | 💀 Outdated |
| May 2026 | Anti-3-star | 50 | 51 | 44 | 💀 Outdated |
| Apr 2026 | Box | 50 | 51 | 41 | 💀 Outdated |
| Mar 2026 | Diamond | 55 | 53 | 44 | 💀 Outdated |
| Feb 2026 | Box | 50 | 54 | 42 | 💀 Outdated |
| Jan 2026 | Box | 54 | 52 | 40 | 💀 Outdated |
| Dec 2025 | Box | 55 | 50 | 41 | 💀 Outdated |
Notice the pattern? War rating 55 in December, 98 by October. That's not a base improving — that's the meta shifting and the designers catching up.
War Bases and Trophy Bases Are Not the Same Animal
I learned this one after a particularly humiliating Legend League session where I kept using my war base and kept watching my trophy count slide downward like a kid on a water slide.

-
War/CWL bases are built to stop the three-star. A 99% two-star is a win. Traps go where attackers funnel, the core is layered, and you bait the Royal Champion into a rage compartment.
-
Trophy bases are built to deny the two-star. Island Town Hall, tight ring or box, no easy Fireball value, no free Flame Flinger spots, and enough point DPS to delete a hero before the funnel finishes.
Use the wrong one and you'll get exactly the result you deserve. Trust me, I've earned that result several times.

What These Layouts Actually Stop
This is the part I find genuinely useful. A base isn't good because it looks neat — it's good because it frustrates a specific attack plan.
😤 Fireball + Golem Meteor — the classic opener. Good layouts starve the chain damage by spacing compartments and refusing to give a clean angle.
😤 Royal Champion Root Riders — bait the RC entry into a rage compartment, then delete her with stacked DPS. Watching a maxed RC evaporate never gets old.
😤 RC Dragons — air pathing matters more than people think. Symmetrical cores force dragons into the worst possible sweep.
😤 Throwers and Giant Arrow plus Backpack — the sneaky stuff. Careful coverage and no obvious bait points are the answer here.
😤 Queen Charge Lalo, Hogs, Super Witch smash — layered boxes and rings break funnels, and broken funnels win defenses.
My Honest Advice (From Someone Who Has Wasted Too Many Walls)
-
Pick the newest layout you can get. Not the prettiest. Not the one your clanmate swears by. The newest.
-
Anything older than about three months is decoration. Balance changes and progression shift the foundation, and the internet has already solved it.
-
Swap styles when you swap goals. War base for war. Trophy base for ladder. Stop mixing them.
-
Don't trust a layout you've never seen tested. A base that only exists in a screenshot is a base that will get flattened.

At the end of the day, TH15 defense is a game of information. The fewer people who know your layout, the better it holds. That's the entire logic behind season drops — new layouts land at the start of each season, roughly a month before they go public, which is exactly the window where they actually win defenses.
And me? I'll keep rebuilding every month, because apparently that's who I am now. My clan has accepted it. My walls have not. 😅
