The wait is finally over, Chiefs! 🎉 As a longtime Clash of Clans player, I couldn't be more excited to dive into the first sneak peek for the Town Hall 18 update. This isn't just another level bump — it's a fundamental shift in how we defend our bases. From a brand-new Guardian system to the permanent addition of the Meteor Golem, TH18 is packed with game-changing features. Let me break down everything we know so far.

Guardians: A New Era of Town Hall Defense

At TH18, the Town Hall undergoes a major transformation. Gone are the days of the Giga Inferno or Poison Bomb. Instead, we get Guardians — powerful protectors that defend your base in a completely new way. Here's the lowdown:

  • The Town Hall no longer counts as a Defense, so enemy troops won't target it like before. This changes attack strategies significantly.

  • Guardians only defend — you can't use them for attacking.

  • You can upgrade Guardians directly from a special menu inside the Town Hall, and these upgrades use a Builder.

  • While a Guardian is upgrading, it won't defend in regular attacks, but it will still defend in Wars and Ranked battles. That's a huge relief for competitive players.

  • You can switch between two Guardians — Longshot and Smasher — using a toggle button on the Town Hall.

  • Tap the Guardian when viewing your village to see its patrol route.

Now, let's meet the two Guardians:

Smasher — The Melee Guardian

  • Targets: Ground & Air

  • Deals splash damage

  • When destroyed, it drops a Rage effect on the battlefield

  • Gets enraged if the Town Hall is destroyed

Smasher sounds like an absolute beast, especially with that post-destruction Rage. I can already imagine the chaos it will cause.

Longshot — The Ranged Guardian

  • Targets: Ground & Air

  • Deals splash damage

  • Explodes on defeat

Longshot's explosive demise could catch attackers off guard, punishing them for focusing it down. The choice between these two will depend on your base layout and war strategy.

Meteor Golem Goes Permanent!

Remember the Meteor Golem from the October update? It's no longer a temporary troop — it's here to stay! 🌠

Here's how it works:

  • Unlocks with the new Barracks level (available at TH17)

  • Has 3 upgrade levels: two at TH17 and one more at TH18

  • Its Totem doesn't open Clan Castle troops or trigger traps

  • The Totem isn't affected by Ice Block, Clone, or Recall Spells

  • If the spell lands in the middle of a building, the Totem will spawn beside it

This permanent addition gives TH17 and TH18 players a powerful new tool for both attacking and defending. I'm curious to see how the meta shifts around it.

Super Wizard Tower: Merging Magic

Two Wizard Towers can now merge into a single Super Wizard Tower — and it's strong. 💥

  • It hits one troop, then chains the attack to up to 15 others

  • Has a range of 8 tiles, which is one more than a normal Wizard Tower

  • Comes with 2 upgrade levels

This change also helps balance the defensive version of the Minion Prince. The chain attack potential is scary — imagine a swarm of troops getting zapped in quick succession. Defensive layouts will need to adapt.

Quality-of-Life Changes and More

The sneak peek also brought several other notable tweaks:

  • Clan donations: Level 7 Clans can now donate 1 extra spell, meaning you can donate up to 4 spells with all perks unlocked. That's a big boost for war coordination.

  • Upgrade reductions: Upgrade times and costs have been reduced for many upgrades in TH16 and TH17. Catching up just got easier.

  • Loot and rewards: Added min and max loot values for TH18 Chest drops (Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir). Also added Ranked Battle loot, League, and Star Bonus values for TH18.

  • Price adjustments: You can find the full list in the November Update Price Changes post. (No link needed — you know where to find it!)

CWL Medal Changes

A small but notable tweak — the devs mentioned this as part of a long-term plan to make CWL rewards feel more meaningful. Instead of stockpiling medals, the idea is to encourage players to use them throughout their journey for better progression. As someone who's guilty of hoarding medals, I appreciate this nudge.

Final Thoughts

Day 1 of the TH18 sneak peeks already sets the tone — a redefined defense system, a permanent Meteor Golem, and some solid quality-of-life changes. The Guardian mechanic alone could completely change how we approach base building and war attacks. I'm eagerly awaiting the next reveals because it looks like TH18 is going to completely change how we defend.

Stay tuned, Chiefs — this is going to be one wild ride! 🚀
